The Crystal Ball team are always keen to make the daily grind a little easier and a little more fun, so when we received an unusual request from one of our customers we were keen to find out more.
KTwo Hire and Sales is a plant hire business in Burntisland, Fife, which uses Crystal Ball’s Fleet Vehicle Tracker in 14 of its vehicles. Alec Mitchell, the son of its Director Craig Mitchell, had recently graduated from Newcastle University and was planning to take part in the Mongol Rally long distance driving challenge with fellow graduate Harry Richardson.
Unsurprisingly, Alec’s father was keen to be able to monitor the boys’ progress and safety throughout the trip and felt that Crystal Ball might be able to help fit a Vehicle Tracking unit to their car. However we felt that the better solution was our MobileTrack Pro product, as their journey would be taking them outside of Europe, they’d need the ability to swap out the sim card inside of the tracking device in order to maintain connectivity and transmit their location.
So on July 19th this year the boys set off with their Crystal Ball tracking pack in place, this included:
1 x Samsung Mini2
1 x MobileTrack Pro App
1 x In-Car Charger
1 x Mobile Phone Mount
If you follow us on Twitter you’ll already have seen some pictures from Alec and Harry’s journey as they drove across Europe, Western and Central Asia and into Mongolia. The boys arrived back in the UK on the 19th September having raised more than £700 for the Cool Earth charity. Cool Erth does vital work to protect the environment by working alongside indigenous villages to halt rainforest destruction. We’d like to congratulate the boys on completing the marathon journey to Ulan Bator and successfully supporting the charity’s great work.
We’ve put together an interactive infographic that covers some of the key facts and figures about their journey which you can check out below:
