Followers of the UK’s premier eco-driving event will be able to chart competitors’ progress live on the MPG Marathon website using Crystal Ball’s instant vehicle tracking technology.
Crystal Ball provides GPS-based vehicle tracking systems to fleets across the country, and will be demonstrating its latest SmartCam product, which will be installed in vehicles taking part in the competition to provide key journey data including real-time locations, current speeds, route history and video. The uploaded footage will be broadcast live at www.thempgmarathon.co.uk
SmartCam is Crystal Ball’s comprehensive offering, providing integrated fleet tracking with 3G HD video, capturing real-time location, journey data and valuable video events. It’s of benefit to fleet managers, as not only does it allow them to monitor and improve driver behaviour and vehicle efficiency, but it can also provide immediate video evidence for insurance claims.
“We are very excited to be the first integrated vehicle and camera telematics provider to sponsor the MPG Marathon,” said Crystal Ball’s owner, Raj Singh. “Through true road speed data on board the device, SmartCam alerts drivers of speeding events and fixed speed cameras, helping to ensure driver safety and protect driving licenses. This contributes to a more efficient and eco-friendly driving style.”
Event organiser Jerry Ramsdale added: “We’re very excited about the live data feeds, and how they will give us an additional element to this year’s event, allowing its many followers to track competitors’ routes and driving performance.
“Crystal Ball is a natural partner for the MPG Marathon because, like the art of economy driving itself, it’s something that can be of great benefit to both fleet managers and drivers, helping them to improve their efficiency and safety while at the same time helping to reduce costs. “
The annual MPG Marathon kicks off next Tuesday, October 18, and is a two-day event aimed at proving the benefits of fuel efficient, economical driving, while at the same time providing a shop window into some of the most innovative, eco-friendly and diverse vehicles and telematics technology on sale – and even some not yet on sale – in the UK.
Based at Heythrop Park Resort in Oxfordshire, competitors will be tasked with planning their own routes to four different venues across the heart of the country, including the iconic Silverstone racing circuit in Northamptonshire, home to the British Grand Prix.
Their aim will be to achieve the highest possible MPG figure for their vehicle of choice, with prizes being awarded for those that achieve not just the best overall MPG figure, but also the most significant improvement over the manufacturer’s quoted figure.
Although the 2016 event is already heavily subscribed, there are a limited number of last chance spaces still available for vehicle manufacturers, fleet operators, dealer groups or even individuals to take part.
